What They’re Wearing: Cool Kids at Mid City Mercado
Hair ribbons, charms on everything, and Labubus.
Maybe it’s from my years at Time Out New York where I helped choose and style the Most Stylish New Yorkers, or when I had to go out on the street and ask people what they were wearing for WWD and FN, (I was 21 and so embarrassed), but I am eternally inspired by street style. I want to document it all, but I feel like a creep, so I usually just admire from afar.
This weekend, I was invited by WSS to attend its pop-up at Mid City Mercado (it could be “Mid-City” or “Midcity,” the internet seems to be divided). I don’t usually go to brand things on the weekend, but I’ve had my eye on this monthly event with POC vendors, food, drinks, art, and Latino culture. It’s not my culture, but I appreciate every second I’m welcomed into such a vibrant, creative, cool space. While I stood there eating delicious strawberry shortcake-coated grapes (Grape Villain changed my life) and drinking the best agua fresca de pepino I’ve ever had, I noticed the kids there — around Gen Z age — had impeccable style.
